OPINION
It appears that the mantle for Tottenham scapegoat is being handed from Moussa Sissoko to Ben Davies. The left-back has been a mainstay of the team this season and actually had a very solid match as Spurs kept their Champions League hopes alive with a 1-0 win against Inter Milan at Wembley on Tuesday night. With Danny Rose fit again to make the substitute’s bench, the Welshman has genuine competition for his place again and, although he does not have the Englishman’s dynamism going forward, he is a consistent and wholehearted operator who rarely gets it wrong defensively. What irritates Tottenham fans so much, and it was apparent for much of the Inter match, is Davies’ crossing on the run is far from pinpoint. As one supporter stated, ‘Davies couldn’t cross a road’, and that summed up the feelings about the player’s offensive contribution. Certainly, it is an area of the the left-back’s game that he must improve, as some supporters are very quick to attest.
