Leeds United are keeping tabs on Brentford midfielder Lewis Macleod who could be available on a free transfer in the summer, according to the Scottish Sun

The newspaper report that the 5ft 9in Scotland youth international [Transfermarkt] has rejected a new deal at Griffin Park despite finally establishing himself in the first-team after a series of injury issues.

The Sun claim that the Whites are monitoring Macleod’s situation at their Championship rivals, with a potential free transfer on the cards at the end of the season.

Good move for Leeds?

On a free, yes.

The versatile Macleod has been in impressive form for Brentford this season, and he would certainly be a solid addition for the Whites if they were able to get him for free.

However, the value of this move also depends on whether Leeds are promoted at the end of the season, with Marcelo Bielsa needing to look for players of a higher calibre if that does happen.

That is not to say that Macleod could not play in the Premier League, merely that his injury problems have meant it is uncertain as of right now.

Likely to happen?

It does look like Macleod will leave Brentford at the end of the season after rejecting their offer of a new contract, but whether he will end up at Leeds is another matter.

The 24-year-old is also being tracked by his former club Rangers, and that could be a tempting move for the Scotsman to go and work under Steven Gerrard at Ibrox.
