Aston Villa secured all three points at Villa Park tonight after back-to-back defeats, but fans were not impressed by the display from goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland.

The 28-year-old signed for Villa in the summer for £2.7million from FC Ingolstadt and tonight’s game was his 14th in the Championship.

However, if Villa fans weren’t impressed with Nyland, they were much happier with what they saw at the other end of the pitch.

Their star man Jack Grealish got his side off to the perfect start tonight, putting Villa ahead after just four minutes.

But the game was fairly even after this, with both sides wasting some good chances to score – until James Chester scored the second that wrapped things up.

COMMENTARY

Aston Villa fans have been concerned about Nyland all season and he was dropped for Mark Bunn in the game against Preston. Bunn let three goals in though in a 3-3 draw and Nyland got the gloves back. He made one fantastic save tonight, early on in the second-half, and to be fair the fans acknowledged that. With the score at 1-0 at the time it was a game-turner and you could look back to that moment and say it was just as crucial as either Villa goal. However, Nyland looked incredibly shaky in the first-half and he really needs to get a grip on his game – and the ball – if he’s going to win over the fans. Once they’ve turned on you as a keeper it’s incredibly hard to win them back round and it will be a huge test of Nyland’s character. More saves like the one in the second-half will do it, but what the fans really want to see is consistency. And holding onto simple crosses. And so far, Nyland hasn’t done that in a Villa shirt.
