A section of Celtic fans have taken to Twitter to annihilate Dedryck Boyata for his performance in the 0-0 draw with Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena on Sunday afternoon.

Boyata, 27, has certainly improved for the Hoops this season, but his latest outing has failed to impress some fans on social media, with one supporter dubbing his outing at Almondvale as his “worst” game of the campaign.

However the senior Belgium international still managed to keep the Livi attack quiet enough to earn a clean sheet, despite getting pelters online.

COMMENTARY:

Boyata is one of those players who if his performances drop in the slightest then there are going to be some fans who come out an criticise him. He was public enemy number one after the summer transfer window closed when there were reports of him trying to force a move away from Celtic Park, but he soon got back in the good books’ of fans with a series of fine performances. The former Manchester City man has to maintain a high level if he doesn’t want to be back on the wrong side of the fanbase, so that is probably why he was hammered by some supporters on Sunday. Boyata was not Celtic’s worst performer. He did his job and the Hoops got themselves a clean sheet. It was a lack of cutting edge at the other end of the pitch that was the issue for Brendan Rodgers’ side today. Livingston played out of their skins to be fair to them as well.
