A section of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to destroy Joe Gomez for his performance in the 2-0 win over Fulham at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
Gomez, 21, has been in the form of his life this season, however the England international bore the brunt of criticism on the occasions that Fulham got in behind the Reds’ defence and have goalkeeper Alisson work to do.
Some Liverpool supporters took aim at the defence on social media, with one calling him a “clown” for a defensive mix-up in the first-half.
COMMENTARY:
It doesn’t matter how good the result or the performance is, there are always some fans who like to look at the negatives and in this case it was a number of Liverpool supporters having a go at Gomez. It was not his finest performance for the Reds but be thankful that you know how well Gomez can actually play when you look at how the defence has been over the last few years. Liverpool are keeping clean sheets on the regular and are starting to win games without fans having to go through a rollercoaster of emotions in the stands, and that is down to how well Gomez and Virgil van Dijk are playing. The former Charlton defender will improve from his performance on Sunday and hopefully he will start when Jurgen Klopp’s side take on Watford so that he can be ready for a massive test against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
