Tottenham are preparing to get the cheque-book out to sign Lyon midfielder Tanguy Ndombele in January, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper has claimed that Spurs have made the 21-year-old a key target for the winter transfer window, however Manchester City are also in the race to sign him.

It is understood that Lyon would want over £55million for Ndombele, who has been impressive for this season, especially in the Champions League.

Good move for Tottenham?

If Mauricio Pochettino wants to replace Mousa Dembele, then Ndombele is his man.

The box-to-box midfielder is very similar to Dembele, whose contract expires at the end of the season, and has already shown at Lyon that he has the ability to be one of the best in his position in Europe.

This season, the former Amiens ace has made 11 appearances across all competitions, supplying four assists in the process.

He was the driving force behind Lyon’s shock Champions League win at Manchester City last month and would be a top addition in North London if Tottenham were able to lure him across the English Channel.

Likely to happen?

Man City’s interest is a concern for Spurs, and so is Ndombele’s price-tag.

Will Daniel Levy be willing to spend £55million? He may have to in this case because Dembele looks as though he is going to leave the club and only an expensive player will be able to fill the void he is going to leave.

Spurs have shown they’re willing to splash the cash before, but Ndombele is surely going to be one of the most in-demand players in Europe in 2019.
