Rangers midfielder Jack Thomson has hinted that he would quit Ibrox if he feels as though he is not getting enough opportunities at the club.

Thomson, 18, has never made an appearance for the senior side however he was named on the bench a couple of times during Mark Warburton’s spell at Ibrox.

Now, the teenager has suggested in a Twitter Q&A session that he would consider leaving the Gers if he feels as though that is the best move for his career.

“I would love to play my football and progress here but if that doesn’t happen I want to progress as a player elsewhere and see where it takes me,” said Thomson via Rangers’ official youth development Twitter account on Tuesday when asked if he sees himself staying at Ibrox for the time being.

OPINION

It would be very foolish of Thomson to settle for what he already has at Rangers and he is right to show that he is willing to push for a move if he feels that is the best move for his career. The Light Blues do have a really good youth system and even in the last few years while the club has gone through some of it’s darkest days, good young talent has still been developed and promoted into the first team. Will Thomson be among the next crop to make the grade in the senior squad? At the moment, it’s hard to tell, but it does not look likely for the young midfielder. Before thinking about leaving Rangers for good, Thomson should try and sort out a loan move for himself first. In January he should try and get a Championship or League One side to take him on board and then next summer he can assess his situation as he’ll be in the final year of his contract.
