A section of fans on Twitter have been reacting to the performance of Celtic winger James Forrest in Scotland’s 3-1 defeat to Portugal on Sunday.

The Scots took on Portugal in a friendly clash at Hampden Park, with Steven Naismith grabbing the consolation goal in the third minute of stoppage time to spare his country’s blushes.

Despite the defeat, some users have hailed the display of the 27-year-old – who was one of six changes made by Scotland boss Alex McLeish – with some comments including “our most creative player” and “need to get Forrest on the ball much more.”

OPINION

Even though Scotland were rather poor in the loss to Portugal on Sunday, it looks as though James Forrest was their saving grace with his performance. Like one fan said, his display has all but proved to Scotland boss Alex McLeish that he deserves to be one of the first names on the teamsheet. He must regret not starting Forrest in the loss against Israel the other day, as fans could not get enough of his exploits, bar one. According to these tweets, he provided the creativity that the Scots have been lacking recently, and Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers will no doubt be pleased that Forrest has impressed many. Celtic fans will no doubt have their fingers crossed that he maintains this form for the club, as the Hoops could really do with a boost to improve their league chances. Nevertheless, Forrest will be glad to see that he has impressed some fans, even if his teammates were rather poor.
