Steven Gerrard has made a brilliant start to life as Rangers manager but his side’s Scottish Premiership position is not what many would expect and plans must be made ahead of the January transfer window.

One area of the squad that could do with being padded out even further is the attack. Umar Sadiq’s loan deal looks as though is could be terminated in January given how little game-time he has had and it wouldn’t hurt to add another option on the right wing.

West Brom’s Oli Burke would solve both of those issues and the Scotland international’s lack of minutes at The Hawthorns this season means that it would certainly be a possibility for Gerrard to go out and sign him in the winter transfer window.

Burke, 21, has made just three appearances in all competitions for the Baggies this season. The Albion outcast may have scored his first for the club in the Carabao Cup in August, but due to the formation that is now used, there is no right-wing slot for him to play in.

The former Nottingham Forest and RB Leipzig attacker can also play as a centre-forward, but given the form of Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez, there is no chance of him getting the nod to start up front for the English Championship high-flyers, who sit second in the league.

Burke is not an awful player and given the fact he is not playing for West Brom, the £30,000-a-week (Spotrac) ace could be made available on loan in January, and he would be perfect for Gerrard if he wanted to replace Sadiq while also getting some extra firepower on the wings.

Adding some real strength in depth would give the Gers squad a massive boost going into the second-half of the season where a 55th Scottish title could be on the cards.

Ibrox will roar if the club manages to get a signing like this over the line and Gerrard would be mad to snub the chance to add a player with such raw potential and quality to his attacking arsenal.
