Tottenham are in the hunt to sign Sunderland centre-forward Josh Maja, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claims that the 19-year-old’s contract expires at the end of the season, meaning that the Black Cats could lose him for a small compensation fee next summer.

It is understood that Manchester City are interested in re-signing their former youth player, while Southampton are also keep tabs on Maja.

Good move for Tottenham?

Maja has been in prolific form in front of goal for Sunderland this season, scoring nine goals in 12 appearances in League One.

The London-born striker obviously is not first team quality for Spurs, but he is definitely someone who can develop in the Under-23s while sitting on the fringes of Mauricio Pochettino’s first team.

Spurs need to think about their striker option ahead of next summer with Fernando Llorente’s contract set to expire at the end of the season and Vincent Janssen could be sold as he’s nowhere near the first team.

Harry Kane needs a back-up, so why not go for a young up and coming forward in Maja?

Likely to happen?

With Maja’s contract expiring at the end of the season, there is a chance that he could move on but there are three different clubs interested in him and both have their pros and cons.

Southampton love to promote youth but could be a Championship club next season going by the way they’re playing.

Man City are the reigning champions and have Pep Guardiola, but is a young player ever going to make it through the ranks there?

And with Tottenham, they like to promote youth but no one is ever going to get the nod over Kane.
