West Brom executive director Peter Band has decided to retire, according to the Express & Star.

The newspaper has claimed on their website that Band has decided to quit his senior role at The Hawthorns after 11 years with the club and Lee Cooper will now take up his duties.

It is understood that Band’s exit means that just three men sit on the Baggies’ official board now with chief executive Mark Jenkins, Chinese chairman Li Piyue and club lawyer Simon Carrington.

OPINION

West Brom’s hierarchy has been changing constantly in 2018, with no signs of it stopping after yet another high-profile exit in Band. While the retiring senior man may not have had such a hands-on role that effected the football on show at The Hawthorns, he was still an important figure and Jenkins will have to find a way to replace him soon. It could be that the Baggies wait until they return to the Premier League before adding to the board, but given the fact that just three men currently sit on it, there could be more additions before the January transfer window to give Darren Moore the best chance of upgrading his squad. West Brom made a net profit in the summer so there could be money to spend in the winter but with the Black Country side sitting top of the Championship, the traditionally tight-fisted club could be quiet, especially if Harvey Barnes isn’t recalled by Leicester.
