Rangers must sign Leicester midfielder Andy King in the January transfer window with the Wales international well out of favour at the King Power and a reported exit next year looking increasingly likely.

According to the Leicester Mercury, it is inevitable that King, 29, will leave Leicester and with the amount of injury and fitness issues suffered by Rangers midfielders this season, it would make a lot of sense for Steven Gerrard to go out and sign him up.

King is not playing for the Foxes first team right now and has had to make do with Under-23s football this season, however that is not because he is a bad player but it is because Claude Puel has stockpiled players in his position and failed to move on players like the Welsh international.

He was key to the Foxes winning the Premier League in 2016 and his 374 appearances across all competitions for the East Midlands club shows just how consistently good he can play.

However it now looks as though the 29-year-old’s time at the King Power is up and Rangers should be one of his suitors in January.

King may have to take a wage cut to head north of the border as according to statistics website Spotrac, the Leicester outcast is earning £40,000-a-week on his deal, which is due to expire in 2020.

The central midfielder would be worth the money though as he would certainly be an upgrade on someone like Scott Arfield and could be part of the Gers starting line-up over the next few years, unlike loanees Lassana Coulibaly and Ovie Ejaria.

Ibrox will roar if Gerrard is able to sign someone of King’s quality and experience, so doing business to sign the midfielder in January is an absolute no-brainer.
