Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has claimed that Arsene Wenger could manage Everton if he was to return to the Premier League in the future.

As quoted by BBC Sport, Wenger has declared that he is ready to return to management after leaving the Gunners at the end of last season, leading to a conversation about who the experienced manager could take charge of in England.

TalkSPORT pundit Parlour does not believe it will be one of the regular top-six clubs, but could see him at West Ham or replacing Marco Silva at Goodison Park if the Portuguese boss was ever sacked.

“I would love to see him [Wenger] back. What sort of club would it be? I would say someone like Everton. He wouldn’t get in a top-six side,” said Parlour, as show on talkSPORT’s official Twitter account on Wednesday.

He added: “You’ve got to get a club that’s really on the coat-tails of that top-six. He might go West Ham, who obviously they’ve got to back him and ‘right, there’s the financial package to get into the top-six’.

“Everton. Marco Silva, I hate talking about this because you’re more or less trying to get people sacked, but someone like Everton who have got a massive future, a new stadium and there’s a real buzz there.

OPINION

What is the point in this kind of speculation? There are leagues out there other than the Premier League and ex-Arsenal boss Wenger would surely be on the radar of plenty of clubs that aren’t Everton or West Ham – who only hired new managers in the summer. Parlour and his mates on talkSPORT are clearly getting bored in the international break, especially now that we are in those few days between the international fixtures ending and the league games kicking off again. It’s not worth thinking about who could replace Silva right now anyway and if Parlour wanted to suggest Premier League teams that Wenger could manage then why not mention someone whose managers are under pressure? Leicester, Newcastle and Southampton are good examples. They are good, well-supported clubs who have spent a long time in the Premier League now but could change managers at some point in the next year.
