A section of West Ham United fans have taken to Twitter to drool over defender Issa Diop for his display in the 1-0 loss to Tottenham on Saturday.
The 6ft 4in [Transfermarkt] colossus was solid in the back four, putting in a crucial tackle in the 27th minute to keep the scoreline at 0-0 when Spurs striker Harry Kane was through on goal – but Erik Lamela netted just before half time to secure the win for the visitors.
Some Hammers’ fans were delighted with the performance of the summer recruit, with many comments including “Diop is a maestro”, “he’s gonna be some player” and “potentially world-class”.

Sadly I have a feeling Diop will be snapped up by a top club by next season. He is potentially world class.

OPINION
It is no surprise that the fans have heaped praise on Diop here, he was superb against Tottenham on Saturday, and he has been one of the most consistent players over the course of the season so far. It is hard to forget that he is only 21-years-old – he plays like someone far beyond their years. West Ham fans must take comfort in the fact that they have a defender like Diop in the team, as not many players can get past him. Like today – he made a superb tackle from Kane when he was straight through on goal. Based on these tweets, some fans think that the young ace is going to be a great defender in a few years time. He is already on his way there – and if he maintains the form he is in right now, then he has the potential to be one of the league’s best centre-backs.
