Some Aston Villa fans have slammed goalkeeper Orlan Nyland in the 1-0 win against Swansea at Villa Park on Saturday.
In Dean Smith’s first game in charge of the West Midlands club, he opted to name Nyland in the starting line-up despite the Norway international being widely criticised for his performances since joining the Villains in the summer.
And that criticism did not stop despite a win against Swansea, with one fan saying that Nyland’s display was “garbage”.

Back 4 is on halfway line as often as possible too. Nyland has one awful spot, but had a good save or two too.

Definitely. Nyland just looks average now. Given him the benefit and it’s not showing signs of changing

OPINION
Nyland was a poor signing by Villa in the summer and with the money that Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens pumped into the club, Steve Bruce could have surely signed someone better. But the Norway international kept a clean sheet in Smith’s first game in charge and still gets laid into on social media by some fans – that’s not right. Villa had a lot of positives on Saturday and have shown that they are about to shoot up the table with a solid win over a good team. Fans should be focusing on those instead of picking out negatives like Nyland had to push a save wide instead of saving it or his poor distribution. Who cares? They did not score and Villa have enough playmakers in the outfield to be able to create chances. Nyland’s job is to keep clean sheets and he did that job against the Swans.
