Man United lost to Champions League favourites Juventus at Old Trafford tonight and fans were angered by a poor performance from midfielder Nemanja Matic.

The 30-year-old midfielder had a terrible night in the middle of the park and he came in for the brunt of the criticism from the home support.

Paulo Dybala gave the visitors the lead after 19 minutes and United rarely looked like getting an equaliser, with Romelu Lukaku ineffective and Paul Pogba not shining against his former side.

There’s no shame in losing to a side like Juventus but fans weren’t happy with the manner of the defeat and with Matic in particular, with one fan saying he was “stealing his wage” – a reported £120k-a-week – and another saying it was time to “get rid”.

Here are the best reactions from United fans to Matic tonight:

OPINION

Many fans were hoping the explosive scenes at Stamford Bridge at the weekend would kick off a sustained United comeback after a season that hasn’t promised much. It’s tough to take anything away from this game though. Juventus are a quality side and losing to them, even at Old Trafford, isn’t a big surprise. They came in as favourites according to the bookies and the game lived up to that assessment. United weren’t that adventurous in the first-half but showed signs of coming alive in the final quarter of the game. That’s been a big criticism of Jose Mourinho but again, it’s hard to level that as a criticism when you’re playing Juventus. It was a triumphant homecoming for Cristiano Ronaldo but he’s got bigger problems on his plate at the moment. United fans were gracious towards their former beloved star but were glad that he didn’t get on the scoresheet tonight.
