A section of Manchester United fans took to Twitter to rave about Luke Shaw even though their team lost 1-0 to Juventus in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
United failed to build upon encouraging Premier League displays against Chelsea and Newcastle United as they suffered a home defeat to the Italian champions through an early Paulo Dybala goal.
But many supporters were thrilled with the performance of left-back Shaw.

With the ink barely dry on an eyewatering £190,000-a-week contract, Shaw has some big numbers to live up to. But no-one can accuse him of failing to represent the famous red shirt with pride and class. The left-back has been United’s most consistent performer this season – even ahead of the hallowed David de Gea – and that continued with another fine display at Old Trafford. On a night when the limitations of the team assembled by Jose Mourinho were laid bare, Shaw defended solidly against Juan Cuadrado and provided a regular supply line of crosses and threatening deliveries on the overlap. If every United player had demonstrated his passion and commitment to the cause, they would not have rolled over so easily. Shaw has now played the full 90 minutes of eight of United’s nine league matches this season – he missed the other one only due to concussion – as well as all three of their Champions League fixtures. He has finally established himself as a first choice after four-and-a-bit harrowing years.
