A section of Manchester City fans took to Twitter to crucify Fernandinho for his performance in their team’s 2-1 Champions League win against Hoffenheim on Tuesday night.
The Brazilian central midfielder played the full 90 minutes of the clash in Germany as City came from behind to secure a dramatic win through goals from Sergio Aguero and David Silva.
Many supporters were very critical of the contribution of Fernandinho.

COMMENTARY:
It’s safe to say Man City fans are highly concerned about the contribution of Fernandinho, and worried about his future role in the team. The Brazilian turned 33 in May and many are claiming his legs have gone and he no longer has the energy to be the all-energy midfield destroyer in Pep Guardiola’s side. It is clear why City pushed so hard to sign Jorginho from Napoli in the summer. The team’s weakest area is in central midfield, which has been highlighted by the absence of Kevin De Bruyne for most of the first two months of the season. The combination of Fernandinho and Ilkay Gundogan is an unconvincing one, not offering the energy and care in distribution that is needed for a team where expectations and demands are so high. Yet, Guardiola clearly feels he can’t do without Fernandinho. He has started all nine of the side’s Premier League and Champions League fixtures this season.
Fernandinho both age and miles on his legs have taken their toll. We need help stabilizing the midfield and covering for the back line. Aka January need a true box to box CM or CDM

Fernandinho can't keep up. A DM needed in Jan. I thought it would have made sense to play Mharez from the start, keep sterling fresh for Liverpool. Sane is getting back to form. Thanks God KdB is coming back. Our mid is so thin now after Gundo injury.

Fernandinho needs to find his form he’s a shadow of last season. Can’t get another DM in January unless already playing in Prem. JS was decent when he came on. Could Stuyvesant the answer

Fernandinho started to look tired after the first couple of games. He needs some rest in the short term, a replacement in the longer one. The worrying thing is that even Gundogan, the man supposed to cover has not been at par recently. Can the intl break be here already?

Another Fernandinho performance that concerned me when we were under pressure.

Age is catching up to Fernandinho?

Someone please tell Pep to sign a holding midfielder, Fernandinho has lost a yard of pace in that midfield.

? Fernandinho finished, last season was his best and last. Need to sign someone in January.

A young energetic defensive midfielder should be #1 priority come the January transfer window. Fernandinho looks absolutely tired and it’s only 2 months into the season. Suddenly the Liverpool game is ominous.

Gundogan is utter trash. Nonsense.
Fernandinho should just go to China in January. His decline was sharp
