Sky Sports Daily pundit Tony Cascarino has drooled over Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson ahead of the weekend showdown against Manchester City.

Former striker Cascarino claimed the summer-of-2017 signing was the “deal of the decade” when the Merseyside giants prised him from Hull City for an initial £8million.

He named the Scotland international in his combined Liverpool-City XI as the two title challengers prepare to go head to head at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.

“It was the deal of the decade when Liverpool signed him from Hull City for an initial £8 million, and he easily gets into this team,” Cascarino told the Times. “He shows extraordinary energy from start to finish. His crossing is exceptional and his recoveries in defence are brilliant.”

What a player Robertson is. And what a signing. The left-back has had a remarkable 2018 after taking a while to settle in following his arrival from Hull and convince Jurgen Klopp that he was ready for the first team. The Scot took his chance brilliantly when former first choice Alberto Moreno suffered an ankle injury last November. He is even better than the Spaniard bombing up and down the left flank, with his radar-precise deliveries providing a constant supply of goalscoring chances, such as his perfect cross spurned by Xherdan Shaqiri late in last Saturday’s Premier League clash against Chelsea. Crucially, Robertson is so far superior to Moreno defensively, they may as well be in different postcodes. Robertson has emerged as a crucial player for Liverpool who can consistently be relied upon to deliver the goods. He would walk into any side in the Premier League.
