Everton are set to make a jawdropping contract offer to Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, according to the Sun.

The newspaper claim sporting director Marcel Brands is putting together a package including a five-year contract worth £150,000-a-week and a £15million signing-on fee to entice the Wales international to Goodison Park.

The Sun report Everton are pushing the boat out to win the race for Ramsey, who is set to leave Arsenal on a free when his contract expires next summer.

Good move for Everton?

Even at those kind of eyewatering sums, yes. Ramsey (who stands at 6ft, according to Transfermarkt) is a proven Premier League and international performer who would walk into most sides in Europe and would certainly be brilliant addition for Everton. He is one of the best goalscoring midfielders around – a record of 60 goals from 340 Arsenal appearances is hugely impressive – and there is a sense that, aged 27, there is plenty more to come from someone who the Gunners have not always got the best from. At a team like Everton, Ramsey could run the show and be given a regular attacking midfield slot that would get the best out of his knack for making driving runs and arriving in the box to cause mayhem.

Likely to happen?

Everton have ambition and financial resources. But they will be behind the elite in the race for Ramsey’s signature, as they cannot offer the trophy-winning potential or glamour of the really big guns. It would be a major shock if the Toffees win this race.
