Everton striker Fraser Hornby is set to sit on the sidelines with his injury blow until 2019 after he officially revealed he had undergone surgery on ankle ligament damage, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claim on their website that the 19-year-old hitman, who confirmed via his personal Twitter account that he was set for a spell on the sidelines after going under the knife, will be out for two months at a minimum, and will be targeting a return to action in the new year.

The youngster had been a regular for the Toffees’ under-23 side, netting once as he played in all seven of the club’s Premier League 2 matches, and had made his senior bow last season.

Opinion

While no players wants to be sidelined for a significant amount of time, the truth is it could have been a lot worse for the youngster, and it is better for him to take the time out to recover now, while he is still young and developing, and make sure there is no lasting damage, rather than it plague him for the entirety of his career. Hornby is obviously highly rated at Goodison Park and the Toffees will be disappointed that he is going to have to watch on rather than taking part, but at the same time he was not set to play any major role in the Premier League campaign and as such should not be seen as too big a loss. All that Marco Silva will be hoping is that the young talent can make a full recovery as soon as possible, and that none of his other senior forwards suffer some sort of setback, otherwise options up top could begin to look pretty scarce.
