Tottenham are in the hunt to sign Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips, according to TeamTalk.

The news outlet claims that Everton are in pole position in the race for the 22-year-old’s signature, but Arsenal and a number of other Premier League clubs are also looking at the Elland Road ace, who would consider a move to the top-flight if the opportunity arose.

It is understood that Phillips is also being considered by Gareth Southgate for a shock call-up to the England national squad.

Good move for Tottenham?

Phillips has certainly improved under Marcelo Bielsa’s leadership at Elland Road, but there is no way that he is good enough to play for a top-six Premier League club or the England national team.

The 22-year-old, who has made 12 appearances in all competitions this season, has still had some poor performances in the Championship and has struggled in recent weeks as the club’s form has taken a dip.

If Mauricio Pochettino signed Phillips then he and Daniel Levy can expect a massive backlash from fans because the Leeds first team would not get anywhere near the starting line-up in North London.

Likely to happen?

You really cannot see this happening.

Leeds do not need to sell Phillips and while TeamTalk reports that he would not snub a move to the Premier League, they also claim he is unlikely to push for the move.

Spurs will be under-pressure to make a big signing in January and Everton and Arsenal also have the budgets to aim much higher.
