Darren Moore has confirmed that Matty Phillips is a doubt for West Brom’s clash against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Wednesday night.

Phillips, 27, has missed the Baggies’ last two fixtures after he was substituted off in the second-half of the win against Millwall on September 22.

And it seems as though the Scotland international’s time on the sidelines could continue with him facing a fitness test ahead of next week’s trip to Yorkshire.

“We’re just assessing him. We’ll have a look at it for Wednesday. It’s nothing too serious or bad, we just felt with the relentless schedule, you can’t risk people because there are games around the corner,” said Moore, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.

“We’ll have a look at him for Wednesday.”

OPINION

It would be a massive blow for West Brom to be without Phillips for yet another game. Sheffield Wednesday will be on a high after they held Leeds United to a draw in their Yorkshire derby on Friday, and Moore hardly has the best options out on the right as Tyrone Mears had to start against Preston in Phillips’ absence. The former QPR winger has been West Brom’s best player away from home this season. The Baggies’ key player has made 10 appearances across all competitions this season, scoring four goals in the process with two of them earning points away at Nottingham Forest and Birmingham City. Mears struggled in the 3-2 win at Preston and unfortunately it looks like he could start again against the Owls next week. Hopefully Phillips recovers in time because he has been brilliant this season and the Baggies’ results could start to suffer the longer he is out.
