Jordan Jones has described the last two transfer windows as “mental torture” after failing to get a move to Rangers.

The Scottish Sun report that the Glasgow giants pushed hard to sign Jones, 23, from Kilmarnock last season and again this summer but their bids were not enough to prise him from Rugby Park.

The Northern Ireland international winger admitted he had his head turned by the interest from Rangers.

“Yes, it does affect you,” he told the Scottish Sun. “It is mental torture, really. You are getting told a lot of things and trying to concentrate on football but it is draining.

“Through those two transfer windows were two of the worst times in my life. But you just have to get back to your football as quickly as possible and let that side of the game take care of itself.”

OPINION

Jones announced himself on the Scottish and international stages last season with a number of eye-catching performances for the Kilmarnock side that has been transformed by Steve Clarke. The wide forward scored four times and supplied 10 assists from 41 Killie appearances last season as he earned rave reviews from observers and became a marked man in the Scottish game. Rangers tried to sign him in the summer of 2017 and once again following Steven Gerrard’s appointment this summer as part of a mass overhaul of their playing squad. With Jamie Murphy expected to be out for the season, the Ibrox club are without their senior left winger although the deadline-day signing of Eros Grezda for £2million-plus ended Jones’ hopes of a move to Glasgow. Yet, he is young enough and good enough to make the giants sit up and take notice in the future. He must put his failed move behind him and get his head down.
