A number of Tottenham fans have turned to social media to drool over the performance of 25-year-old full back Serge Aurier after he played his role in the League Cup clash against Watford on Wednesday.
The Ivorian international, who was making just his fourth appearance of the season, was one of a number of changes made by Mauricio Pochettino for the match at the MK Stadium, which was a temporary venue due to Spurs’ new stadium being incomplete and Wembley hosting another event.
The right back impressed the Tottenham faithful with his display against the Hornets, with many fans raving on Twitter over his ability at both ends of the pitch.

Super defending from Aurier to deny Watford a clear goal scoring chance

I was terrified Aurier would concede a pen there but he didn’t so he’s a god

What a challenge by Serge Aurier – starting the game tremendously and that was a terrific piece of defending to deny Watford the opening goal #COYS

Opinion
Aurier has not been every Tottenham supporters’ cup of tea during his time with the north London outfit but he was well deserving of the plaudits coming his way on Wednesday. Usually a liability at the back while a threat going forward, he showed a good balance at the Stadium MK, remaining resolute in keeping the Watford attack at bay for most of the game while managing to find space to run into at the back, delivering some dangerous crosses throughout. With Kieran Trippier firmly the first choice at right back under Pochettino, the Ivorian will no doubt have to settle for a place back on the bench when the club return to league action but this display will have done his chances of usurping the English speed demon no harm. It was important that he improved on his performances from last season, otherwise he could have been facing a fight to keep his place at the club.
