A selection of Celtic fans have turned to social media to celebrate the match winning display of Leigh Griffiths after he netted the only goal in the 1-0 victory over St Johnstone on Wednesday night.

The Hoops left it late to sink their Premiership rivals to progress through to the semi finals of the Scottish League Cup, with their star striker netting with just seven minutes left to play.

After a tightly fought encounter, which saw the Bhoys struggle to break down the home side, the Celtic fans were left raving over Griffiths’ performance on Twitter, many insisting that others needed to start appreciating what they had at their disposal and that he should be a first team regular from here on out.

This is Futbol has rounded up some of the supporters’ tweets:

Opinion

This was by no means a classic Celtic display but the Hoops can at least be thankful that Griffiths, who has been such a great servant to the club, managed to find the all important goal once again. He has so often been the man that the Bhoys have relied on to get them the win and Wednesday night was no different, and the fans watching on were absolutely right to herald him above his teammates. There were some pretty poor performances on display and Brendan Rodgers will no doubt be having a word with some of his top stars to question why they were so disappointing and to make sure that they understand their displays were not up to the expectation required by the club. Still, a win is a win and the Celtic faithful will be more relieved than anything, with success on the domestic stage, no matter the competition, of paramount importance after two successive treble winning campaigns.
