Former Scotland international Ally McCoist has said that Tottenham are at a crossroads over what do do about their stadium which he boldly believes could prove to be the best in the world.

The Lilywhites have been forced to extend their temporary stay at Wembley as a result of issues surrounding the construction and development of their new home stadium, which has seen a number of ‘home’ matches changed.

Speaking about the ongoing problems, McCoist belives that the club need to make a decision about what is happening for the good of the fans, both home and away, to make sure that they are not being inconvenienced, especially in a financial sense.

Speaking on talkSPORT, he said: “The most important thing is the supporters. They’re going to have one of the best stadiums possibly in the world.

“For that to look forward to is fantastic as long as the supporters aren’t put out that much, and I include away supporters in that. If it starts affecting them financially to a great degree then I think that something has to give.”

Opinion

This whole stadium issue is becoming a debacle in north London now, and it has put a real cloud over what was supposed to be the new beginnings for Spurs. The new stadium was meant to be the crowning glory in their recent period of success but quite frankly it has become the elephant in the room – and sooner or later it is going to become a white elephant if Daniel Levy is not careful. They really should have prepared for such an eventuality – things go wrong with building projects on a daily basis, and with a development as large and significant as a new stadium, where health and safety of tens of thousands of people is of paramount importance, there were almost guaranteed to be setbacks. As McCoist rightly points out, the fans must be the number one priority here, and a little more transparency could go a long way to keeping them on side, for they cannot be happy with the situation right now.
