A section of football fans have taken to Twitter to drool over Virgil van Dijk after his performance in their 3-2 Champions League win against Paris Saint-Germain on Tuesday night.
The Holland international was outstanding as the Merseysiders got their campaign up and running with a triumph that their pulsating display deserved.
Supporters on social media, many of them Liverpool followers, were in meltdown at the brilliance of Van Dijk.

This was a colossal performance from Van Dijk. PSG were put to the sword on a memorable Anfield European night and it flattered them that it needed an injury-time Roberto Firmino winner to hand Liverpool a sixth consecutive win at the start of a campaign that promises so much. Van Dijk’s contribution was immense. Edinson Cavani, Kylian Mbappe and Neymar were all deathly quiet until the France World Cup winner made the most of his first serious opportunity to drill a powerful finish low past Alisson in front of the Kop with seven minutes left. It was not just Van Dijk’s commanding presence that stood out, but also his technical quality on the ball. Time after time, he launched attacks with surgically precise diagonal balls to full-backs Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson. Liverpool knew they were buying an A-list centre-back when they shelled out £70million for Van Dijk in January but they seriously couldn’t have imagined he’d be this good.
