England slumped to a 2-1 defeat by Spain at Wembley on Saturday in their opening UEFA Nations League match, and a section of football fans have taken to Twitter to drool over the performance of Manchester City defender John Stones.
Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for England but Saul Niguez hit back immediately and then Rodrigo slotted them ahead before the break, with no side able to net in the second half.
Many fans on Twitter have been blown away by Stones’ display against Spain, with some believing that the Manchester City man is underrated.

OPINION
These footy fans were certainly left impressed by Stones’ performance for England against Spain, and it is easy to see why. The Manchester City enforcer looked to be at the top of his game all night, and put in some vital contributions at the back for the Three Lions. He was unlucky to be booked for a perfectly good sliding challenge on Rodrigo, and even sprayed a few passes around from midfield as he stepped out of defence. It is a shame for Stones that there is so much quality in the Manchester City squad, because he would easily be an ever-present for just about any other Premier League club. He has been given a few chances by Pep Guardiola this season, but players like Vincent Kompany and Aymeric Laporte seem to be favoured at the moment. Hopefully his performance for England puts him back in contention for City after the break.
