England fell to a 2-1 loss to Spain in their UEFA Nations League opener at Wembley on Saturday, and a section of football fans have taken to Twitter to destroy Tottenham star Dele Alli for his display.

England took an early lead through Marcus Rashford but Spain hit back through Saul Niguez before Rodrigo put them ahead with a tidy finish, with no team able to break through again in the second period.

Many football fans have slammed Alli for an ineffective performance in attack for the Three Lions, with many believing that he has not contributed for England in a while.

OPINION

These fans seem to think that Alli put in a poor performance for the Three Lions against Spain, and in many ways it is hard to disagree. The Tottenham attacker really struggled to get involved in the game in any meaningful way, and was pretty much anonymous at times. That has been a criticism that has been levelled at Alli in an England shirt, and unfortunately it did happen again today v Spain. It has been a mixed start to the season for Alli in the Premier League, and that definitely carried over to his England performance, and the 22-year-old must look to improve in the coming weeks. Much like his club partner Harry Kane, Alli looks slightly fatigued, and could probably do with a rest against Switzerland next week. Tottenham fans would sure appreciate that, with Alli set to be so important for their trophy aspirations in the coming season.
