Arsenal came through a tough test to beat Watford 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, but many fans have taken to Twitter to destroy the display of centre-back Shkodran Mustafi.
The Gunners looked like they may be held for a 0-0 draw as the game entered the final ten minutes but an own goal from Craig Cathcart and a Mesut Ozil effort secured a valuable three points.
Despite the win, many fans have been quick to slam Germany international Mustafi, 26, for another mediocre display at the back.

Sokratis and Holding need to start the next game for Arsenal. Or maybe just try it out in the Europa League game. If Arsenal want to reduce their wage bill, they should get Mustafi off it completely.

Wonder who will pair next week with Sokratis at CB after that MOTM performance from Holding. Mustafi has to be dropped. #AFC #ARSWAT

Mustafi is a below average player. Constantly makes silly fouls and mistakes that always put the Arsenal in trouble. Hope he gets benched for Sokratis when he comes back. Sokratis-Holding for me as CBs

Holding>Mustafi tbh. Mustafi is a mistake waiting to happen. Holding was immense today. Dealt with both Deeney and Gray a lot better than Mustafi imo

Despite Mustafi's best efforts to be a weasel, there's always someone to clean his mess. I like his speed and tenacity but he needs to go.

How is mustafi actually a centre back for arsenal?! Also how did he ever get in the German national side? Not seen many worse at centre back than him

OPINION
These Arsenal fans seem pretty unimpressed by Mustafi’s performance on Saturday, and in many ways you can see why. The Gunners may well have kept a clean sheet but their defending was slightly suspect at times, and that mostly came down to Mustafi. The 26-year-old simply has been unable to live up to the hype after the club spent big money to sign him from Valencia in 2016, and his continued poor performances will surely bring his long-term future at the club into doubt. There is no question about his commitment and desire, but it simply boils down to his defensive ability. He is constantly caught out of position, makes bad mistakes, and looks out of his depth. For a player who has won 20 caps for Germany that comes as a surprise, but Mustafi has done little to prove that assessment wrong. It looks like he will keep his place in the side for the near future, but once Sokratis has returned from injury you feel that Unai Emery may well try and work a partnership between the Greece international and Rob Holding.
