BBC Match of the Day pundit Martin Keown has heaped praise on Wolves’ attacker Adama Traore after his display against Southampton.

Wolves won the game 2-0 with goals from Ivan Cavaleiro and Jonny, but it was Traore, who came on for Wander Helder Costa in the 53rd minute, who caught Keown’s eye.

“Traore has got to be the quickest player in the Premier League”, said Keown on Match of the Day (BBC, Saturday, 10.30pm).

“Over the years he’s had a Ferrari engine but unfortunately he’s been a learner driver at the wheel.

“Not any more. He’s passed the test with flying colours.”

OPINION

Wolves weren’t at their best on Saturday but still came out with all three points against a battling Southampton side. And it was a much better performance from Traore, who has struggled to convince that he’s worthy of a start in this Wolves side since his move from Middlesbrough. Fans have been critical of him since his £18million move but he transformed the game yesterday with his pace and strength. If he can harness all of his qualities and cut out all of his shortcomings, Wolves could have the real deal on their hands. Keown certainly thinks so. Meanwhile, Wolves continue to creep up the table and now sit in eighth spot after a slightly shaky start to the season. They’re now only three points off Tottenham and Arsenal, and there’s a real feeling that they can be a force in this season’s Premier League.
