Young Tottenham centre-back Juan Foyth is set to be called up to the Argentina squad under caretaker manager Lionel Scaloni, despite not playing this season after coming back from injury – and it proves how highly rated the 20-year-old is.

Lilywhite Rose, a Twitter account with good Spurs links, made the claim on his Twitter account on Tuesday morning.

Foyth’s £12million price tag made a lot of people blink when he was signed from Club Estudiantes de La Plata in the summer of 2017.

He’d only played for his former club seven times and since he signed for Spurs he’s only made eight appearances for Mauricio Pochettino.

However, he was always seen as one for the future – albeit a very expensive investment.

He’s just returned from injury and could make the squad for the league cup game against Watford on Wednesday, but the news that he’s due a full Argentina call-up vindicates the money that Daniel Levy spent on him.

In Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen Spurs have two excellent but ageing centre-backs. Will either or both be at Tottenham next season? That’s debatable.

Both players are out of contract in the summer, although Spurs do have the option of another year on both of them.

In Foyth, though, they have a long-term replacement and if he lives up to his potential, he will be one of the best buys of the Levy era.

Putting aside this past summer, Levy has had a great record in the transfer market for Tottenham – Mousa Dembele and Dele Alli are just two players he got for a bargain price. Foyth is yet another transfer masterstroke.
