West Ham striker Javier Hernandez has been suffering with glandular fever and it’s a “bit of a concern” according to club Insider ExWHUemployee.

Talking on the latest episode of the West Ham podcast, the West Ham Way, club Insider ExWHUemployee delivered an update on Hernandez, saying that the 30-year-old striker has been suffering with glandular fever.

He added that the illness was energy-sapping and that it was a “bit of a concern” as it’s a tough one to come back from. “Apparently he’s been really, really ill with it, so hopefully that goes soon.”

However, the Claret & Hugh website, reported that he was over the illness and would return to training this week.

Hernandez played in the first four games for West Ham this season but missed the Everton and Chelsea games.

The last two games have seen a big turnaround for the club which seems to suggest that they’re doing okay without him, but we think West Ham would have beaten Chelsea if Chicharito was in the side.

Michail Antonio missed a couple of easy chances for the Hammers on Sunday and they really missed a lethal finisher like Hernandez.

West Ham fans are still waiting to get the best from the Mexico international after he signed for £16million from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer of 2017.

Nine goals in 38 games is a pretty poor return to date but Hammers supporters will be hoping he proves what he can do this season, when he’s surrounded by players capable of ripping defences apart and creating chances for him.

Even if the Claret & Hugh report is true though, however, Hernandez won’t be match fit for a while after his debilitating illness.

And that’s a real blow for West Ham, who badly need someone who can provide proper back-up or a real alternative to Marko Arnautovic.
