Alan Shearer has backed Toon-daft boxer Lewis Ritson after he hit out at Newcastle United for not letting him use the club’s badge on his merchandise.

Ritson took to his personal Twitter account on Monday morning to explain how the club he supports has told him he is not allowed to use the badge on his merchandise or clothes unless it is on live television.

The British lightweight champion also added that he wants Mike Ashley out of St James’ Park.

Newcastle legend and Match of the Day pundit Shearer was quick to back Ritson in his rant in a three-word reply to the boxer amid rising disdain towards how the club is being ran.

“Well said. Shambles,” he said via his personal Twitter account on Monday.

OPINION

It’s a hard time to be a Newcastle supporter at the moment, with Ritson bearing the brunt of some inexcusable, and frankly laughable, behaviour from the club. If anything, the boxer is a walking advertising board for the Magpies and as he is not making any financial gain from it, it’s hard to see where the issue is. It is probably not Ashley behind this but there’s no doubt that it is his minions and his ruling that has caused some a disconnection between the club and it’s supporters right now. At least Shearer is on board but Newcastle need the wider media to also start facing up against Ashley. Unfortunately, that is not happening. Sky Sports seem to be bad for it with their selective choices of pundits to talk about Newcastle. It would be great to see Shearer and Kevin Keegan tearing into Ashley together on Sky Sports, but you know full well that is never going to happen.
