Southampton have confirmed that right-back Kayne Ramsay has agreed a new deal with the club.

The Saints announced via their official Twitter account and official website on Wednesday that Ramsay, 17, has wrapped up his first professional contract with the club, extending his stay until the end of the 2020/21 season.

Southampton signed Ramsay from Chelsea in 2017 and he has since become a key player in Radhi Jaïdi’s Under-23s side.

OPINION

Ramsay looks like a very good young talent and could be yet another young full-back to rise through the ranks at Southampton and break into the first team in the future. The 17-year-old has already impressed in the Under-23s this season. He has scored two goals and supplied two assists in four Premier League 2 appearances, even though the south coast side are yet to win a game. Ramsay is obviously a very attack-minded full-back and that is extremely useful with the way that football has evolved in the last five to 10 years. There is a lot of importance on full-backs being able to get forward and contribute in attack while also having the physical attributes to track back. Can Ramsay make it to the top? Going by his form you have to say that he could and Chelsea dropped a clanger by letting him leave for the Saints last year.
