Everton reportedly decided to back out of negotiations to sign Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney in the summer transfer window – and it is an utter joke that the Premier League club refused to bid for the Scotland international.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Toffees were in the hunt to sign Tierney, 21, in the summer, however preliminary discussions reached a dead-end with the Bhoys refusing to lower their demands.

The Daily Record reported that the Scottish champions had slapped a £30million price-tag on the Isle of Man-born dazzler – but that would have been nothing for Everton in comparison to what he will be worth in the future.

Tierney is arguably one of the best left-backs in the United Kingdom and Everton needed someone in his position in the summer up until they signed Lucas Digne from Barcelona.

While the France international has impressed since moving to Merseyside, he still cost a reported £18million and is four years older than Tierney.

Digne probably won’t be able to increase his value at Goodison Park, while Tierney definitely would have and could easily have become one of the world’s most expensive defenders after a few years in the Premier League.

But nevermind the financial aspects of signing the Celtic ace for the timebeing, Tierney is an absolutely brilliant left-back.

Since establishing himself in the first team at Celtic Park, the 21-year-old has scored seven goals and supplied 32 assists in 143 appearances across all competitions.

He has played in the Champions League, Europa League, won countless domestic honours and is not even anywhere near to reaching his full potential at the moment.

Everton’s decision to back away from that £30million signing was absolutely awful, and there is no doubt that they will regret it in the future when one of their Premier League rivals eventually splashes the cash on the flying Scotsman.
