Swansea City boss Graham Potter has issued an update on the injury sustained by striker Wilfried Bony in February.

The centre-forward has been on the sidelines for seven months after sustaining a serious knee cruciate injury in a Premier League clash against Leicester City.

However, Potter has offered an update on the 29-year-old attacker, admitting that there is no date set for his return to the team, despite the fact that he is making good progress.

“He has been away with some family stuff back in Africa but he is making progress, he was with physios today but we are hoping he will step into group the next few weeks, but there is no date yet,” he said in the press conference ahead of the Nottingham Forest clash this weekend, as quoted by Wales Online.

“He is getting closer. he is no spring chicken but the good work he has done has to be respected and we have to do it the right way.”

OPINION

The fact that Wilfried Bony has been out since February with a serious knee injury will undoubtedluy mean that he will not find it easy to break into the first team when he eventually returns. However, before his injury occurred, he was not in the best form anyway. Four goals in the first half of last season with two the season before is a woeful return for the striker, so the fact he has been injured has been somewhat of a blessing in disguise for the Swansea supporters. When he comes back from injury, it will take a while to get back to his old self – but it is likely that he will be worse than he was before. His absence has not been a problem for the Swans, despite the fact they were relegated the same season he was injured – and it is not likely that the club’s faithful will welcome him back with open arms.
