A section of Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to urge the club to re-sign midfielder Steven Davis from Southampton.

Davis, 33, was in stunning form for Northern Ireland earlier this week when he scored in the 3-0 hammering of Israel, but he has been down the pecking order St Mary’s this term having failed to make a single Premier League appearance.

And now, some Gers fans have made it clear that they want Steven Gerrard to secure the £60,000-a-week (Spotrac) ace’s return to Ibrox at the next available opportunity.

OPINION

Could Davis be the final piece to Gerrard’s jigsaw? While Davis isn’t playing as regularly for Southampton as he once was, the 101-times Northern Ireland international still has plenty left in the tank and would be a solid signing for Rangers if the Glasgow giants were able to do a deal in January. Gerrard does have plenty of midfielders, but Davis would be a massive upgrade on what he has and would also see another ex-Ger return to Ibrox who left in 2012. The midfielder is still Southampton’s club captain and they could be difficult to deal with in January if the Gers do go after signing him. However with him not making a single league appearance yet this term, the chances are that the 33-year-old could become frustrated with his lack of opportunities. These Rangers fans are very excited about Davis, and rightly so, because he could be the man who sees Rangers transform into serious title contenders.
