Ex-Nottingham Forest player Kenny Burns has questioned the bravery of Swansea City new arrival Barrie McKay ahead of the clash between the two teams.

The 23-year-old arrived from Forest earlier this summer, and Burns has pointed out that the winger will have a point to prove when he faces his old club this weekend.

Burns remarked on how the 5ft 7in [Transfermarkt] star is talented, but added how he is one of those players who does not like “getting kicked”, and that whoever comes up against him should give him “a little nudge.”

“It didn’t work out for him at Nottingham Forest but he seems to be doing okay since he joined Swansea City this summer,” Burns wrote in his column for the Nottingham Post.

“So I’m sure he’ll have an extra incentive to want to play well when Forest go to the Liberty Stadium on Saturday. He’ll want to prove a point; prove that he is good enough.

“I remember watching him in one match when he got kicked and then we never saw him again. He just disappeared from the game. Whoever comes up against him, I hope they give McKay a little nudge, just to let him know they are there.”

“He’s got talent and he’s got pace, but I think he’s one of those players who just doesn’t like getting kicked.”

OPINION

Burns has got it spot on in his verdict of former Forest player Barrie McKay. Since leaving the Reds earlier this summer to join the Swans, he will definitely have a point to prove when the two clubs clash this weekend. He will want to show them what they are missing, and there is no doubt that he will be able to do that, especially as Swansea should be one of the favourites for promotion. Like Burns said, he has the talent and pace, he just needs to learn that in football, you do get knocked about a bit. This is especially true for wingers like McKay, who will face this when they run into the opponents’ defence. Nevertheless, he has already made five appearances for Graham Potter’s side in the Championship, and looks fully on course to establish himself as a first team regular for the rest of the season.
