A section of Tottenham fans have delivered mixed verdicts on Twitter to the confirmed loan exit of Josh Onomah.

Spurs announced on their official Twitter account on Friday afternoon that the attacking midfielder has sealed a season-long loan to Sheffield Wednesday.

Many supporters of the north Londoners are disappointed the club have offloaded the highly rated youngster, although others point out he would not be in the first team starting XI if he stayed.

COMMENTARY:

Onomah is a young English player of immense promise. There are plenty of them around, but the problem is not many are getting regular Premier League football, as Gareth Southgate pointedly remarked when announcing his England squad yesterday. There is plenty of love and admiration from Spurs fans for Onomah, who has graduated from their academy to embark upon a career at the top level. Can he do so at Tottenham? The jury is still out on that, even though he has accumulated 32 first-team appearances, the majority of which have been as a substitute. Onomah had a mixed campaign at Aston Villa last season, scoring four goals from 37 appearances, a decent but far from earth-shattering return for an attacking midfielder. His hopes of breaking into the Spurs first team this season have been hampered by a pre-season injury, as well as the galaxy of stars blocking his first-team path.
