Leeds United could make a late-window swoop for Tottenham winger Marcus Edwards, according to Leeds Live.

The Trinity Mirror regional site claim the Championship giants may turn to the England Under-20 international as they look to reinforce their squad in the loan window that remains open until 31 August.

Leeds Live report Edwards, 19, is likely to be keen on a move elsewhere after failing to make the first-team breakthrough at Spurs, making just one appearance in a League Cup tie nearly two years ago.

Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic and Everton midfielder Muhamed Besic are named as possible alternative targets for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

Good move for Leeds?

It could work out brilliantly. Or terribly. Edwards is a dazzling talent who has long been spoken about behind closed doors at Spurs as the jewel in the club’s academy crown and a possible club and international superstar of the future. The problem is his attitude and willingness to knuckle down and do the hard yards. How do we know this? Mauricio Pochettino told the world of his reservations about the player he once dubbed ‘Mini Messi’ in his autobiography last year. Edwards has not got a look-in at Spurs since then and he had a miserable spell at Championship club Norwich City in the second half of last season when he barely played a game.

Likely to happen?

It is certainly possible, as Edwards has failed to impress Pochettino or make much progress in forcing his way up the Spurs pecking order. Would Leeds shell out the £5million fee needed to sign the teenager permanently? Unlikely. They would need to see evidence of his commitment beforehand, so a loan is more likely.
