Tottenham are likely to sign two players on deadline day including one player the club are keeping close to their chest, according to a reliable journalist.

Alastair Gold, who covers Spurs for Football London, claimed in a transfer column today that he is expecting Spurs to have secured two arrivals “by the time 5pm rolls around”.

Gold mentioned Aston Villa attacking midfielder Jack Grealish, Manchester United forward Anthony Martial and Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha as targets and intriguingly added that “a new name will suddenly emerge in the afternoon” as he believes “there will be a player that Spurs have kept close to their chest who will join late on”.

OPINION

After a fallow window marked by zero activity, either incoming or outgoing, is chairman Daniel Levy about to go into transfer overdrive? Certainly, that appears likely, according to the reliable Gold, who covers the club full-time and recently went on the pre-season tour of the United States. Tottenham fans would probably settle for one A-list arrival, and few would be unhappy with the capture of Palace dazzler Zaha or United speed machine Martial. Grealish would also be popular with many, even though he has spent the last two seasons in the Championship and the jury is out on whether he can hit the ground running and immediately make an impact at White Hart Lane. As for the possible surprise arrival, who could that be? Gold is a straight-shooter generally, and appears to be suggesting that he has information a new player could be coming in who no-one outside of the Spurs inner circle is aware of. That is a tantalising and exciting prospect for the Lilywhite faithful.
