West Ham are edging closer to signing Fiorentina enforcer Carlos Sanchez after the Colombia international jetted into London on Wednesday night to undergo a medical with the Premier League club, according to Football.London reporter Sam Inkersole.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account on Thursday that Sanchez, 32, should be signed by the Hammers before the 5pm cut-off on deadline day, as well as Arsenal forward Lucas Perez who is set to be announced before midday.

Manuel Pellegrini has had an extremely busy summer at the London Stadium, and appears to be adding yet another South American to his squad in Sanchez having already snapped up Brazilian Felipe Anderson and Paraguayan Fabian Balbuena.

Good move for West Ham?

For all the signings that Pellegrini has made, he is yet to add a quality defensive midfielder to his squad and by signing Sanchez, he is still not going to get a quality defensive midfielder.

Sanchez is not a good player at all.

He was a massive flop at Aston Villa a few seasons back and if his performances at the World Cup for Colombia were anything to go by, then he has not improved one bit.

Sanchez is more than likely going to be a back-up player, but surely Pellegrini should have gone after someone of first team quality.

Likely to happen?

West Ham have already made eight signings this summer and have spread their activity out quite well, but that is not stopping them on deadline day as they look as though they have two more deals in the pipeline.

Sanchez is more than likely going to be signed after passing his medical and putting pen to paper.
