Leeds United utility man Vurnon Anita has arrived at Willem II to seal a temporary move away from Elland Road, according to BD.

The Dutch news outlet claim that the 29-year-old is at the Eredivisie side to finalise his loan from the Whites, having struggled to force his way into the plans of Marcelo Bielsa after undergoing surgery at the end of last season.

Anita, who is returning to the Netherlands after having made 152 appearances for giants Ajax before moving to Newcastle United, has managed to turn out just 22 times for Leeds since arriving on a free transfer last summer.

Opinion

Anita never looked like he was going to fit into the plans of Leeds even when the likes of Paul Heckingbottom and Thomas Christiansen were at the club, so it is no surprise to see Bielsa getting rid. His ability to play in multiple positions, having been used as a full back, midfielder or even a winger, seems to have played a part in his downfall, with no manager quite clear as to where he should be utilised. He obviously has the technical ability, not to mention the experience of the Championship – having been a regular in Newcastle’s title winning campaign – but there is something about Leeds and Anita that just does not work together. There will be no hard feelings towards the Dutch international, but perhaps a feeling of what might have been if one of the three managers he had in his year and a bit at the club had figured out what to do with him.
