Aston Villa have made “big progress” on their loan move for Le Havre centre-back Harold Moukoudi, according to a reliable journalist.

Alan Nixon, the Sun’s transfer expert, made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Thursday morning.

The EFL deadline is Friday and clubs can only make loan moves.

However, according to French outlet Footmercato, the Villa offer is for an initial loan, with a fee of £1million, and an obligation to buy in January for another £7million.

This could free up Tommy Elphick to join QPR.

Good move for Aston Villa?

Moukoudi would be a brilliant buy for Aston Villa. It might be put through as a loan but this is a significant permanent deal, although it wouldn’t be completed until January. Until then, the 20-year-old France Under-20 international would arrive on loan. Nixon has said that Middlesbrough were also after the player and the Footmercato report saus that Celtic were interested, so Villa will prove that they’ve still got pulling power in the transfer market if they can get this one over the line. Moukoudi might be untested outside of Ligue 2 but he’s well fancied and is seen as a big talent in the future.

Likely to happen?

Nixon talks about “big progress” being made on the deal which bodes really well for Villa’s chances. They’re flying high in the Championship again and look set to launch another bid for promotion back to the Premier League. Moukoudi might well fancy a shot at getting into the English top flight with a big club like Villa.
