Wolves are edging closer to the signing of Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida in a deal worth £16million, according to Sabah.

The Turkish news outlet claims that the Istanbul club’s president Fikret Orman is set to jet into the UK next week to reach a conclusion to negotiations.

It is understood that defensive powerhouse Vida, 29, has also been on the radar of Leicester, Liverpool and West Ham this summer, but Wolves have shown the desire to outbid their Premier League rivals.

Good move for Wolves?

Vida has attracted a lot of attention since starring for Croatia at the World Cup.

He was in tremendous form as his nation reached their first ever World Cup final and was one of the best players in the semi-finals as they knocked out England.

For £16million, Wolves would be getting themselves a strong, brutish defender with a lot of experience in some of Europe’s top level competitions.

Someone like him should fit perfectly into the Premier League, but will he fit into Nuno Espirito Santo’s system?

Likely to happen?

There have been a lot of reports coming out of Turkey this summer revolving around the future of Vida, and it is starting to become a little bit like The Boy Who Cried Wolf.

It’s hard to know what to believe due to the amount of clubs linked to the Croatia international and how many different developments have been on his future.

He will more than likely end up staying put, as he only joined Bestikas in January.
