Brendan Rodgers is set to include Leigh Griffiths and Jozo Simunovic in Celtic’s squad for their opening league clash with Livingston, according to the Daily Record.

The newspaper claim on their website that Griffiths, who has recovered from a thigh strain, is only set for a place on the bench behind permanent signing Odsonne Eduoard but Simunovic is set to return to the side after missing Celtic’s Champions League tie against Rosenborg due to suspension.

Celtic are reported by the Scottish news paper to be playing in a 4-2-3-1 formation with Tom Rogic playing behind Eduoard in a central attacking midfield role.

However, BBC Sport revealed on their website that centre-back Dedryck Boyata is not ready to return while Moussa Dembele is also ruled out.

OPINION

It will be a pleasant sight for Celtic fans to have both Griffiths and Simunovic back in their squad. Griffiths should create a positive rivalry against Odsonne Eduoard as the strikers look to battle it out for the leading attacking role. Simunovic is likely to play regularly at the heart of defence and fans will be hoping that he can show them a stronger sense of discipline after a shocking red card just 11 minutes into their Champions League clash against Armenian champions Alashkert. With defensive pair Dedryck Boyata and Marvin Compper suffering recent injury problems, Rodgers will be hoping he can rely on the Croatian, one of his few defensive options, to learn from his mistake and be an important figure for the Glasgow club. Overall, the Hoops’ side is well balanced in all positions, with the likes of Scott Brown, Scott Sinclair and Kieran Tierney all set to feature at Parkhead on Saturday afternoon.
