West Ham have tabled a bid worth £26.7million for Celta Vigo centre-forward Maxi Gomez, according to Spanish journalist Victor Lopez.

The Radio Galega reporter claimed on his personal Twitter account on Tuesday night that Celta Vigo are asking that the Hammers stump up a huge £35.6million for the 21-year-old Uruguay international.

It is understood that both clubs are hoping to wrap up negotiations with one another by the end of this week.

Gomez was in prolific form last season, scoring 18 goals in 39 appearances across all competitions.

Good move for West Ham?

Gomez would be an unbelievable signing for the Hammers if Manuel Pellegrini is able to pull it off.

The Uruguay international was in deadly form in front of goal in 2017/18 as he managed to find the net against the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid and Sevilla.

Pellegrini has spent a lot of money on strengthening his squad so far this summer but could still do with a lethal striker who can spearhead his attack going into the upcoming Premier League season.

Gomez is young, already in amazing form and would be a very good signing for the London club.

Likely to happen?

West Ham have already spent a lot of money this summer and it seems unlikely that they would want to meet Celta Vigo’s £35.6million asking fee for Gomez.

It does seem as though he could be worth it though as he still has bags of potential and is scoring against some of the best teams in world football.

After spending so much money already though, it’s hard to see how the Irons will splash out on more than £25million for a striker.

Hopefully they can prove us wrong though.
