Watford have tabled a bid for West Brom defender Craig Dawson, according to Sky Sports reporter James Cole.

The reliable journalist claimed on his personal Twitter account that the Baggies have rejected the approach from the Premier League club, even though it was reported by Sky Sports earlier in the transfer window that Dawson, 28, has handed in a transfer request.

Despite being one of the most senior players at The Hawthorns, Dawson has not played in either of West Brom’s opening Championship fixtures against Bolton and Nottingham Forest.

Good move for West Brom?

Darren Moore’s side has really struggled defensively in the opening two games.

Ahmed Hegazi has had back-to-back stinkers against Bolton and Forest, but fortunately Kyle Bartley is looking as though he is going to be a very good signing.

Dawson can play at right-back as well as centre-back, and the Baggies’ depth in that area of the squad is not great too with Allan Nyom not having a great game at the weekend while Tosin Adarabioyo played away from his natural central role there against Forest and made a few mistakes.

Selling Dawson will probably see the Black Country club make a decent amount of money, but it will only be a good move to cash in on him if someone is lined up to replace him.

Likely to happen?

West Brom are trying to clamp down on cashing in on some of their most senior players this summer, but it does seem as though Dawson will leave over the next 24 hours.

He has reportedly handed in his transfer request and has not played a single minute in the Championship yet, so there is a chance that he will be moved on.

If an improved bid comes in, it will surely be enough to see Albion accept it.
